Kevin and Anne McGowan have been pillars of the NOLS community in Lander, WY for decades. Whether having your boots fitted by Kevin or reading Anne's writing about NOLS, they have shaped NOLS. Their son, Joe, was no different. He outfitted students at NOLS Rocky Mountain and captured the beauty of the local environment and culture with his art. He embodied the spirit of adventure and community, whether on the page or on his skateboard, each and every day. His designs have become iconic throughout NOLS and we are so excited to finally feature his Heron and Bison designs to a broader audience.

In October 2014, Joe’s life was taken in a tragic act of violence in which he played no part. His family and friends continue to feel the weight of this loss, and in his honor have created the Joe McGowan Fund.

The Fund supports organizations that create opportunities for art, outdoor exploration, athletics, and above all—experiences that inspire people to live life to the fullest, just as Joe did.
